James Torme
Jazz Vocalist I Concert Artist

“The combination of their world class musicianship and Tormé’s incomparable vocal gifts and showmanship made for a rare musical experience.”
— The Examiner

The multi award winning singer James Tormé is a born entertainer. He is blessed with the ability to interpret melody and lyrics with stunning versatility, scats with impressive virtuosity and bridging tradition into modern musical sensibilities.

The son of 3X Grammy winner and jazz legend Mel Tormé and famed British actress/mother, Janette Scott, James dives into rhythmic and melodic mash-ups with the freedom of an instrumentalist reminiscent of ‘greats' such as Anita O’Day or Ella Fitzgerald. He spent his youth with legends including Ms Fitzgerald, George Shearing, Buddy Rich, Peggy Lee and Duke Ellington.

A master storyteller, James can bring an audience to tears in one moment and have them roaring with laughter the next as he shares precious anecdotes and bits of Hollywood folklore. Like all great entertainers, his charm, ready wit and hypnotic stage presence appear effortless.

These qualities have led the media to describe him as “Old school charm meets new school swagger” and “One of the most extraordinary singers of a generation”.

Whether headlining jazz festivals, featuring with major orchestras, or appearing at venerable jazz haunts with his trio, Tormé approaches every occasion with equal dedication and passion. It's no mystery that Tormé is now consistently appearing to standing room only crowds at the world's top venues as well as being featured as the centerpiece of prestigious jazz festivals across the globe. Says Tormé, "Every show, every appearance is important to me, whether it's the Greek Theater or a small jazz club. If folks are going to spend an evening with me, I want it to be one they'll never forget!"
