Forever Miles & Piaf America and France pay tribute to two
iconic musicians, the influential jazz trumpeter Miles Davis after
21 years after his death along with legendary French singer Edith
Piaf. The stamps were issued last Tuesday by both the United
States Postal Service and France's postal agency La Poste. In
a ceremony at the Rubin
Museum of Art of
Art in New York City, the stamps were unveiled in front of a crowd
that included Davis' son Erin Davis, daughter Cheryl Davis, and
nephew Vince Wilburn, Jr., as well as Blue Note Records chief creative
Was, SiriusXM program director Mark Ruffin, jazz bassist Ron
Carter, producer George Avakian, actress Cicely Tyson, and U.S.
deputy postmaster general Ronald Stroman, who dedicated the stamps.
Avakian, who was a longtime producer for Columbia and worked to
sign Davis early in his career, spoke along with Tyson and Was.
A trumpet trio from Davis' alma mater Juilliard performed "So
What," "Human Nature" and "Kind of Blue"
with the help of a rhythm section. Los Angeles will host a second
stamp dedication June 27, which will be followed by a "Miles
Davis Celebration" concert hosted by Herbie Hancock at Hollywood
Bowl. Hancock will be providing the musical score for an upcoming
feature film starring Don Cheadle and based on Davis' life.
Wins Landmark Decision Against ASCAP And BMI Did you know 70%
of retailers believe music increases sales? DMX
is an industry pioneer with 40 years of experience providing on-site
marketing solutions to businesses of all types and sizes. DMX began
directly licensing musical compositions for use in DMX services
in 2006 rather than relying solely on licenses provided by performing
rights organizations such as ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC . DMX saw this
as a way to compensate publishers directly as well as a way to achieve
savings in an increasingly competitive industry. It also set a precedent
allowing publishers to negotiate and license their music directly
with commercial music providers such as DMX and Muzak. We're also
excited about what this means for our ability to curate great music
from even more artists and share that with our clients and their
customers," said Craug Harrison, Global Director of Content/
Licensing for Mood Media. The new fee structures were incorporated
into DMX's model after the initial court ruling in 2010. Last week's
decision ensures that the new fee structures will remain and DMX
will continue to be able to pass along greater value to its clients.

royalty payments to recording artists and record labels since its
inception. This marks the first time SoundExchange

and is the result of increased collections as well as the enhanced
data management and our improved technology platforms that have

small, medium and large record companies (both indies and majors),

Deml grew up in Germany, where he founded his first band (Quest)
at the tender age of 16. After completing his schooling he moved
to the USA, studying at the Guitar Institute of Technology in Los
Angeles alongside luminaries such as Larry Carlton, Scott Henderson
and Paul Gilbert. Just two years later he was already teaching at
the Institute himself and playing as a tour and session guitarist
in California, including work on projects by Carmine Appice and
Randy Jackson. After five years his residence permit expired and
he returned to Europe. In 1993 he teamed up with keyboard player
Ralf Hildenbeutel to set up the ambient-meets-guitar project Earth
Nation, which a year later caused a stir at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
In the following years, Deml evolved into a sought-after session
and live musician. He now has over 300 sessions to his name
including work for Kingdom Come, Nena, Rick Astley, Snap and Laith
Al-Deen. He has also toured with Saga, the Rödelheim Hartreim
Projekt and Simon Collins, to name but a few. To date, he has released
three studio albums with Errorhead the last being the awesome
"Modern Hippie" (2008) plus a live album and a
concert DVD. He has also lived out his passion for jazz rock in
the Electric Outlet project. He is presently focused exclusively
on Errorhead, however, who are now releasing their first album for
the Rock The Earth label. Organic
