Watch "Walk Us Uptown" on Blue Note Records

LOS ANGELES, CA August 5, 2013 --The Roots 16th album and first collaboration with Elvis Costello, 'Wise Up Ghost', began on NBC's "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," where the hip-hop group is the house band.
Their highly anticipated new album features The Brent Fischer Orchestra and is slated for a September 17 release
from Blue Note Records.
The Roots' Ahmir "Questlove" Thompson who calls 'Wise Up Ghost' "a passion project," put his favorite string sound on the new album. "It was my dream to work with Clare and Brent Fischer orchestra, the one that was on all the classic Prince records I grew up on," said Ahmir in a Fuse interview earlier in July.

Brent was personally asked by Thompson to add his creative expression on five songs: "REFUSE To Be saved", "(She Might Be A) GRENADE", "Walk Us Uptown", "Sugar Won't Work" and "CINCO Minutos Con Vos (5 Minutes with You)", which also features vocal sensation La Marisoul. "Costello is incredible and the musicianship of the band is top notch. They are some of the most innovative people on the scene today" says Fischer, who won a Grammy earlier this year for producing '¡Ritmo!' featuringThe Clare Fischer Latin Jazz Big Band.

The Costello Roots sessions, with a 20-piece orchestra arranged and conducted by Brent Fischer, took place at Conway studio C in Hollywood, CA. "I knew from the start that things would flow well because I got a beautiful note from Ahmir with his wish list," says Brent Fischer, whose credits include: Usher, Al Jarreau, Eric Benet, Toni Braxton and Michael Jackson, to name a few.

Blue Note VP of A&R, Eli Wolf attended the session in LA and connected the band from New York via skype. "It's always great to have that immediate feedback," says Fischer who shares a similar lineage with Thompson. They both played in their fathers' groups starting at an early age and are carrying on their fathers' music legacies through a modern approach that honors and builds on all the great music of the past.

Longtime Roots collaborator Steven Mandel co-produced 'Wise Up Ghost' with Questlove and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Elvis Costello. 11-time Grammy-winner Rafa Sardina (Stevie Wonder, Lady Gaga, Rodrigo y Gabriela ) engineered the orchestra sessions.
"This album is a fantastic blending of many creative inputs skillfully crafted into a singular vision," says Brent Fischer, best known for using unusual orchestral colors and unconventional harmonic ideas to complement his illustrious clients works.
