Yardbirds are set to release "Birdland," - their
1st album since 1968 - April 22 on Favored
Nations Records. "Birdland" will feature founding
rhythm guitarist Chris Drejaa and drummer Jim McCarty, with
theree new members and guests appearances by likes of former

The label hosted friends in the legendary upstairs room at
the Rainbow Bar & Grill in L.A last month. Ken Allardyce
also recorded and mixed the cd at Steve Vais Mothership
studio in Hollywood, Calif., with parts recorded at two London
studios, and a track at Jeff Becks studio in England.
Producer Allardyce actually saw the Yardbirds open for the
Beatles at Hammersmith Odeon in 1964 and has been a fan ever
since.
According to founding Yardbirds member Chris Dreja, It
was a labor of love, and were grateful to everyone who
helped - our guest musicians and especially to Steve Vai.
The Yardbirds are still a kick-ass, high-energy band - and
that comes across on this album. The Yardbirds' American
tour begins in May.

Velvet
Release date: 4/22/03
HUCD 3072

Heads Up
International announces the release of Velvet, Veasley's richly
textured new recording that evokes the sound and spirit of
those formative years when innovators like Sly & the Family
Stone, Earth Wind and Fire and George Clinton's Parliament-Funkadelic
turned the traditions of R&B and soul on their head and
redefined the urban sound.
Combine
these potent ingredients from decades past with the sounds
and sensibilities of contemporary urban music, process them
through Veasley's musically rich Philadelphia upbringing,
and the result is a unique instrumental perspective on the
burgeoning movement that is now called neo-soul.

Orange County-based indie pop rock act Stairwell's new release
on Hopeless Records/Sub CIty showcases the individualistic
characters that fules the band's collective creative fire.
We're
all completely different," vocalist/guitarist Zak Shultz
states. "I got nominated as the Emilio Estevez of the
Breakfast Club, so I'm the jock. John's the weirdo, he's Ally
Sheedy. Aaron is the princess, Molly Ringwald. Tim is the
nerd. Sean is Judd Nelson. We're all trying to get a new fresh
sound and we all argue about it. We argue about stuff all
the time, so we can get a better result."

Janice
Brown writes about Broadcast Trends & Advance Mic Offerings
Michael
Edwards, wired microphone product manager for Audio-Technica,
reports that trends such as surround production for television,
as well as the increasing quality of both radio and television
facilities, have influenced the company's latest offerings.
Sports broadcasts and music production in broadcasts are two
areas A-T notes an immediate improvement in audio quality.
"We've been involved with the Olympics since 1996, in
providing microphones for Atlanta, Sydney and Salt Lake, and
it's been interesting to watch the evolution of stereo there,"
says Edwards. "Our high-end microphones, like the Artist
Elite line, showed up in the Grammy Awards (broadcast in 5.1
surround this year). They were designed for high-end live
sound, and the boundaries between live sound and broadcast
are disappearing because the quality of music broadcast has
improved so much. The Artist Elite microphones--both wired
and wireless--will really have a big impact there." Read
